What we want

Our vision

Walking should be safe and rich in experiences and encounters.

Everyone can choose to walk because it’s fun.

Our mission

  1. Contribute to the shift in mobility: Make walking a central part of sustainable and combined mobility
  2. Guarantee active and inclusive mobility in everyday life: Enable people to be active and independent, with or without walking aids, in their daily mobility to improve their physical health and psychological and social well-being.
  3. Cultivate walkability: Advocate and promote safe, direct, connected and attractive walking routes for everyone, in every community in Switzerland.
  4. Work towards a resource-conserving and forward-looking society: Contribute to a forward-looking society that facilitates social contacts.

For safe and comfortable villages and towns on foot

Encourage, educate, enthuse, campaign, defend, design, promote and network.

We are committed to:

  • Everyone being able to move around safely, freely, and comfortably
  • Streets being seen as public spaces for everyday activities, available to everyone
  • Society and the political world recognising the role of walking at the heart of a culture of travel

How are we involved?

Our activities are carried out across Switzerland. They follow our strategic objectives and are supported by our committee and political representatives, the national secretariat, and locally active regional groups.

Concrete objectives

  • Local authorities plan and implement attractive, safe, dense and barrier-free pedestrian networks.
As many journeys as possible can be made on foot, and pedestrian facilities and public spaces make people want to walk.
  • Measures are being introduced to make walking safer.
  • Motorised traffic does not endanger people on foot and takes account of the need to protect them in traffic (‘Vision Zero’).
  • Independence in daily mobility is guaranteed for all people on foot and those who need barrier-free pedestrian infrastructure.
  • The interests and rights of people on foot, particularly sensitive users such as children, the elderly and people with disabilities, are firmly represented and taken seriously in mobility and urban planning policies.
